David Payne Equals World's Best so far in 2007 Former Wyoming High School and University of Cincinnati hurdler David Payne recently ran the world's fastest time in the 110 meter hurdles. At a May 11 meet in Doha, Qatar Payne clocked a time of 13.2 seconds which equaled the best time of the year so far.
Going into the meet he'd been ranked 10th in the world in the event. Payne hopes to qualify for 2008 Olympic team and is currently training in Hampton, Va. as part of a US Olympic Committee Program.
Before the Flying Pig Marathon, other local marathons existed.
Mike Boylan hosted the first one, the Spartan (Roger Bacon) Marathon, in the early 1970s. Other marathons were the Blue Ash Marathon (1980s), Wade YMCA Pacemakers Marathon (late 1970s) along Rt.8, Clifton Track Club Marathon around Lunken Playfield (mid 1970s), and the Phidippides Marathon in Mt. Airy Forest (1980).
