Mission and History of Train To End Stroke
Mission
The American Stroke Association, a division of the American Heart Association, focuses on reducing disability and death from stroke through research, education, fund raising and advocacy.

Impact Goal
By the year 2010, the American Stroke Association will reduce stroke and risk of stroke by 25 percent through a variety of collaborative ventures and volunteer commitments at the local and national levels.

History
Since its inception in 2001, Train To End Stroke has become the premier fund-raising campaign for the American Stroke Association.  In just four years, the program has saved, changed and inspired thousands of people to take charge of their own lives while saving others.

Train To End Stroke has:

* Raised over $27 million for stroke research and educational programs.

* Registered over 21,000 participants nationwide.

* Inspired over 135 stroke survivors to complete a full or half marathon.

As the No.3 killer and a leading cause of disability in America, stroke needs our attention.  Train To End Stroke informs the public that everyone is at risk for a stroke -- which does not discriminate on age, race, gender or socio-economic status.
