How to Choose a Sport Bra!
Tip from our clothing buyer.

Did you know that 60-80% of women are wearing the wrong size sport bra? Finding the right bra isn’t easy. It shouldn’t dig into shoulders or chafe around the rib cage. The bottom band should stay in place. Sport bras should be made of a breathable fabric such as Coolmax, Supplex and/or Lycra.

Compression sport bras do just that…compress the breasts against the chest. That is good for small to medium breasted women. Large breasted women are better served with a bra that provides support through compression and encapsulation. Encapsulation holds each breast in a separate cup to reduce bounce.

Here are some tips for finding a good fit:

Take several brands and styles into the dressing room. Each brand/style fits differently.

It should feel snug, but not tight. The bottom band shouldn’t ride up when arms are lifted.

Jump or run in place to check support.

Look for a bra that lists the band and /or cup size:
• To find your size, measure the ribcage just under the bust, add 5 to this number, this is your band size.
• To find your cup size, measure the fullest part of the bust. The difference between this measurement and your band size is your cup size. 1” = A cup, 2” = B cup, 3”= C cup, 4” = D cup, 5” = DD cup.

Make sure zippers, hooks, and snaps are covered to avoid chafing.

Once you’ve found a good fit, machine wash and hang dry. Heat causes the Lycra and elastic to lose their effectiveness.
